Miller’s season comes to an end against No. 4 Lady Royals

WESTFIELD – The Noblesville Lady Millers earned a bye in the class 4A Sectional 8 Tournament. With that bye they only needed one win to advance to the sectional championship game on Saturday night at Westfield High School. In order to do that however, they’d need to get past the defending state champion Lady Royals of Hamilton Southeastern. That task proved to be too much for the Lady Millers to handle on the night as they were defeated 59-42 and saw their season come to an end.

The Millers got off to a good start in the first quarter as they got off to a 12-7 lead over the Royals after the first quarter. However the next two quarter would see their five point lead turn into a double-digit deficit as the Millers scored just ten total points in the second and third quarters while the Lady Royals scored 33. In the fourth the Lady Millers found their offensive rhythm once again as they poured in 20 points in the final quarter, but HSE added in 19 of their own to allow them to cruise to a birth in the sectional championship game.

Freshman Ashlynn Shade scored a game-high 24 points for the Lady Millers in their season-ending loss. The Millers did a great job of taking away Senior Sydney Parrish who was just 1-5 from the field. Parrish did however take 18 total foul shots in the game, knocking down 13 of them to end with 15 for the Lady Royals.

The loss sees the Millers season end with a record of 10-13. The win for the Lady Royals improves their record to 22-2 on the season. They will now get a chance at redemption in the Class 4A Sectional championship game Saturday night as they look to avenge their 54-52 loss to cross-town rival Fishers from earlier this season. The Tigers and Royals will tip at 7:30.

Tigers hold off Lady Rock’s comeback

WESTFIELD – The Fishers Lady Tigers and Westfield Rocks met up in the other semi-final game in the Class 4A Sectional 8 tournament. Despite being down 43-35 entering the final quarter, the Lady Rocks made things very interesting late for their home fans but a last second shot at the buzzer would give Fishers a 58-56 win over the Lady Rocks.

Westfield trailed 16-15 after the first quarter and the Lady Tigers slowly were starting to build their lead before the Rocks came storming back with a 21-point fourth quarter. The game felt like whoever had the last shot would win and unfortunately only one team could move on to the sectional championship game.

Junior Katie Burton led the Tigers in scoring with 25 points. Freshman Hailey Smith had ten points, and junior Audra Emmerson and freshman Olivia Smith each finished with six. Senior Tamia Perryman led the Tigers in rebounding with nine rebounds.

The win for the Lady Tigers improves their record to 22-1 on the season. The Tigers will now get a familiar opponent in the sectional final as they get a re-match with cross-town rival Hamilton Southeastern. The Tigers defeated the Royals back on Dec. 21 ironically on a last second shot.

Alyssa Crockett led the Lady Rocks with 28 points, 12 rebounds, and five assists in the team’s season-ending loss. Ava Henson added in 13 points and Ashtin DeCraene recorded 12. The loss ends the Rock’s season with a record of 14-11.
