Millers take on HCC Rival Zionsville

ZIONSVILLE – The Lady Millers traveled to Zionsville on Friday night to take on Hoosier Crossroads Conference rival Zionsville as the two teams looked to build momentum heading into the final stretch of their seasons.

The third quarter proved to be the deciding factor as the Millers used a 14-5 quarter to help them pick up a 58-48 win. Both teams were dead even at 24-24 heading into halftime. That third quarter allowed the Millers to take control of the game and they didn’t let up in the fourth as they added in 20 more points and didn’t allow the Lady Eagles to comeback.

The Millers ended with three players in double figure scoring as Freshman Ashlynn Shade led the way with 20 points to go along with seven rebounds. Shade almost secured a double-double as she once again showed her excellent defensive skills by recording nine steals in the win. Mallory Miller added in 17 points and Abby Haley scored 14 in the win.

Freshman Laila Hull ended with 19 points to lead the Eagles in the loss. Katey Richason chipped in 11 points.

The win for the Lady Millers improves their record to 8-12 (1-5 HCC) on the season. The team will now have the week off before traveling to Franklin Central next Saturday as they wrap up conference play against the 12-7 Lady Flashes.

Parrish leads Royals past Rocks

WESTFIELD – The Hamilton Southeastern Lady Royals traveled to Westfield on Friday night for an HCC showdown with the Lady Rocks. Both teams battled back and forth all night but the Lady Royals made just enough plays down the stretch to secure a 42-35 win.

It was a very tight game in the opening quarter as the Lady Royals held a 13-12 lead. In the second the momentum shifted to the Rocks who used a 10-4 quarter to take a 22-17 lead into halftime. Coming out of halftime, it was once again time for momentum to shift back to the Lady Royals who went on a scoring run of their own, outscoring the Rocks 11-3 in the third as they took a 28-25 lead into the final quarter.

In the final quarter the Lady Rocks just couldn’t seem to break through against the defending Class 4A State Champions and the Royals held off the Rocks in what was a great game between two talented teams.

Sydney Parrish led the Royals with 16 points in the win. Jackie Maulucci added in ten.

No player from the Lady Rocks made it into double figures as Alyssa Crockett led the team with nine points to go along with seven rebounds.

The loss for the Rocks drops their record to 13-8 (3-3 HCC) on the season. They will return to action next Friday as they travel to take on Brownsburg (13-8).

The win for the Lady Royals improves their record to 17-2 on the year (5-1 HCC). The team will travel to No. 4 Lawrence North (20-1) for a top-five class clash on Tuesday.

Lady Tiger’s strong second leads to HCC win over Bulldogs

BROWNSBURG – The Lady Tigers hit the road on Friday night as they traveled to take on HCC rival Brownsburg. A big 20-4 second quarter sparked the Tigers as they fended off a second half comeback and took home a 52-43 win.

The two teams were deadlocked at 15-15 after the opening quarter. The Tigers then showed why they are one of the best teams in the state as they were clicking on both sides of the ball and took a 35-19 lead into halftime.

Thankfully the Tigers big lead at the half was enough because Brownsburg wouldn’t go away quietly. The Lady Tigers offense produced 17 second half points and the Lady Bulldogs put together a 14-8 third to cut the deficit to ten entering the final quarter.

The Tigers defense was able to hold off the Bulldogs in the final period to hold off the comeback attempt.

Freshman Hailey Smith led the Tigers in scoring with 14 points, and Junior Audra Emmerson finished with 11 points. Three other players finished with five points each. Junior Katie Burton led the Tigers in rebounding with ten rebounds and Senior Lydia Stullken grabbed eight rebounds.
