The Class 3A Guerin Catholic Golden Eagles hung around and gave the Brebeuf Jesuit Braves all they could handle in the Sectional 26 title match, but couldn't get past the fourth-ranked powerhouse.

The Braves beat the Golden Eagles in straight sets 25-23, 25-21 and 25-18 to win the sectional and advance to regionals to face Western Boone.

The Guerin volleyball team finished the season 15-20 and will be return all but five of their players next year.

Huskies' season ends in semis

The 3A Hamilton Heights Huskies were unable to overcome No. 10 Wapahani in the semifinals of Sectional 24 on Saturday. The Huskies did win the first set 25-22, but from there the Raiders took over.

Wapahani won the second set 25-19 and went on to take the next two 25-14 and 25-15.

The Huskies concluded the year with an 18-12 record and are projected to return plenty of talent next year from their 2014 Mid-Indiana Conference championship roster.

Royals battle to the end

The Hamilton Southeastern Royals found some success against the Carmel Greyhounds in the semifinals of Sectional 8.

While 4A No. 5 Carmel got off to a hot start and easily dispatched the Royals in the first set of the match 25-13, the No. 15 Royals would take a hard fought second set 27-25 before falling 25-11 in the third and 25-21 in the fourth.

HSE finished the year with a record of 22-11.

Millers reach finals with strong semifinal effort

Before the 4A Noblesville Millers succumbed to defeat in the Sectional 8 title match, they dominated the North Central Panthers 25-10, 25-12 and 25-14 in the semifinals.

Noblesville was led offensively by sophomore Ashley Birkhimer, who had nine kills. Her offensive effort raised her season total to 276, which led the team this season.

Seniors Austyn Everingham and Spencer Grant each recorded three aces in the match. Everingham also had 12 digs and successfully received serves 20 times.

Senior setter Sam Newcomb had 15 assists, which brought her season total to 513.

Trailblazers challenge Tindley in defeat

The Class A University Trailblazers rallied back to win the second set on Saturday against Tindley in the Sectional 58 semifinals 27-25 after dropping the first 25-20.

However, Tindley would regain its composure to win the next two 25-14 and 25-17, ending the Trailblazers' season.

In the sectional quarterfinals on Oct. 23, University defeated Indiana Math & Science Academy West 3-0 to advance into the final four.

The Trailblazers end the year with a 14-14 record.

Blackhawks fall in quarterfinals

The 2A Sheridan Blackhawks's season came to an end in the quarterfinals of Sectional 39 on Oct. 21 with a 3-0 loss to the Elwood Panthers.

Sheridan put up a fight, but the Panthers won in three straight sets 25-14, 25-20 and 25-23.

Leading the way for Sheridan was senior Alyssa Railer, who had four kills and four aces.

Defensively, senior Lindsay Umbarger recorded six digs in the match. Sheridan ended the year with a 3-21 record.
