The Trailblazers are still alive.

University (21-2) erased a slight halftime deficit against Indy Metro (11-13) to earn a 44-41 win and a Class A Sectional 58 championship on Saturday at Bethesda Christian.

Senior David Howard finished with a game-high 19 points, including a trio of 3-pointers, to help lead the Trailblazers to the comeback victory.

University jumped out to a 13-8 advantage after a quarter, but Indy Metro fought back in the second and took a 22-20 edge into the half. Howard scored 15 points in the first half, keeping the Trailblazers in the game until his teammates found their groove.

Foster Flamion provided University with a second scoring option in the second half, as the senior forward finished with 12 points and was the Trailblazers only other player who scored in double-figures.

At the end of the third, University had reclaimed the lead, 31-29. Both sides went back-and-forth in the final stanza, and the score was tied at 40 with 1:40 left on the clock. The Pumas took a one-point edge with about 30 seconds remaining, but a three-point play from senior Zach Hodgin gave the Trailblazers a lead they wouldn’t surrender.

Hodgin finished with five points, senior Josh Watson scored four and senior Ethan Sickels and sophomore Sam Mervis had two each.

University shot just 6-of-13 at the foul line — Indy Metro made 13-of-18.

Onnie Hardline led the Pumas in points with 10 on three 3’s and a free throw.
