The University boys basketball team accomplished a feat today they’d only managed to do once in eight previous attempts - beat Guerin Catholic.

McDonald's Holiday Hoops Tournament on the line, the Trailblazers defeated the Golden Eagles 44-40 on Saturday morning.

The game got off to a slow start offensively, with University holding a 9-4 edge after one. After both teams put up 12 in the second, the score was 21-16 at half. Guerin outscored University by one in the third to make the score 30-26 heading to the fourth.

Josh Watson connected on 5-of-6 free throws in the last 28 seconds of the game for the Trailblazers who held on to a four-point win and a trip to the finals.

Watson led University in scoring with 20 points. David Howard, Foster Flamion and Zach Hodgin each chipped in with eight apiece.

Jack Hansen finished with 20 points for Guerin, who falls to 5-5 on the season.

University never trailed in the semifinals matchup and improved their record to a perfect 10-0.

The Trailblazers play for the tourney championship against Vincennes Lincoln tonight at 8:30 p.m.
