University almost set a school record for points scored in a game in the opening round of the Class 1A Sectional 58 bracket.

The Lady Trailblazers poured it on against the Indianapolis Metropolitan Lady Pumas and ran away with a 90-23 win Tuesday night. The ‘Blazers came within a point of tying the school’s record of 91 — a mark they set earlier this season.

Sophomore Lindsey Syrek led the way for the Trailblazers with a game-high 26 points, but she received plenty of support along the way. Three other ‘Blazers finished in double-figures, as junior Lily Snyder, junior Jhordan McGuire and sophomore Lily Fair scored 18, 12 and 11, respectively.

University took a 15-point advantage, 24-9, after the first quarter as the blowout was just getting started. The Trailblazers held the Pumas to just three points in the second, which wasn't even the lowest scoring quarter for Indianapolis Metro on the night. After going to the locker room with a 47-12 halftime edge, University allowed nine points in the third quarter and just two in the fourth in route to the 67-point win.

Zoey Lewis led the Pumas in scoring with 10. Gracelyn Penn finished with eight. Senior Natalie Nickless and junior Brooke Andrus both chipped in with eight each for the Trailblazers.

University (15-7) advances to play the Indiana School for the Deaf (12-11) in a semifinal matchup Friday at 7:30 p.m.

University won a regular-season matchup between the two schools 62-37 back on Dec. 14.
