The Class 1A No. 1 University Trailblazers were on fire Tuesday night.

The Trailblazers (15-1) hit 15 3-pointers in route to an 88-62 win at home over the International Gryphons (8-10).

Senior David Howard led five Trailblazers in double-figures with 24 points. Howard connected on six 3’s and shot 9-of-15 overall from the floor.

The contest was close after one quarter of play, with University holding a 19-15 advantage, but the Trailblazers turned up the heat in the second. University used a 21-9 run in the second quarter to take a 40-24 lead into the locker room.

A back-and-forth third resulted in the Trailblazers adding one point to their edge heading into the fourth, where they outscored the Gryphons 27-18.

Senior Josh Watson scored 16 points for University on 6-of-6 shooting, including making all four his attempts from behind the arc. Seniors Ethan Sickles, 14, Foster Flamion, 11, and sophomore Max Greenamoyer, 11, joined Howard and Watson in double-figures.

University shot a 57 percent (15-of-26) from deep as a team, and also connected on 76 percent (19-of-25) of its two-point field goal attempts.

Senior Zack Hodgin led the Trailblazers on the glass with eight rebounds. Hodgin also had a team-high nine assists.

University has won five straight games, and will look to make it six in a row Friday at home against Covenant Christian (4-12).
