CARMEL - University High School doesn't have a storied basketball history which spans generations. Established 14 years ago, the school and its even younger boys' basketball program are in fact Trailblazers.

However, the team's accomplishments to date would beg to differ.

Winning the 2005 Indiana Christian State Tournament before making the leap to the Indiana High School Athletic Association in 2005-06, the Trailblazers have already won three sectional titles, including one in their first sanctioned season.

In 2013, the program won its first regional title, and in 2013-14 the Trailblazers finished a respectable 14-10, but expectations dictate a better result.

Determined to win its third sectional in four years, University has its goals set extremely high for 2014-15 and with five returning seniors, aspirations appear realistically obtainable.

In his second season as head coach Brandon Lafferman has two of his three top scorers back this winter. Among them is 6-foot-3 Tyler Diehl, who carried a 14.7 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game average last year.

He is joined by 5-10 senior guard Mikhail Liston, who averaged 8.1 points a game.

Seniors Jacob Daniels, a 6-0 forward, 6-2 frontliner Zach Duncan and 6-1 forward Jazen Cosby are also back for the Trailblazers. At guard, 6-2 junior Conner Holly returns with varsity experience.

Five more seniors occupy spots on the roster in 6-0 Ajay Wooden, 6-3 Chrstian Grumbaums, 5-9 Jake Tanner, 5-8 Marcellius Lewis, and 5-11 Sam Nerney. Tyler Wott, a 5-11 junior, adds additional depth.
