For the second week in a row, a University basketball team competed in our “Game of the Week.” This time, however, it’s the Lady Trailblazers.

Down two starters, University got out of the gate against Lebanon last Saturday with a 13-9 edge after the first quarter and a six-point lead at the half.

Only five Trailblazers scored in the game, and the Tigers were able to claw their way back in the second half - even taking the lead late in the fourth. University’s Brooke Andrus hit two free throws in the closing seconds of regulation to tie the score at 41 and send the game to overtime.

Both teams scored four points in the first OT, before the Trailblazers used an 11-0 run in the second extra period to help lead them to a 58-49 win.

Lindsey Syrek led the Trailblazers with a game-high 19 points, 17 rebounds and nine blocks. Andrus scored 18 and dished out six assists, and Natalie Nickless, who finished with 14, converted all six of her free throw attempts in the second overtime.

Madison Wirey and Tori Harker scored 15 each to lead the Tigers in scoring.

The win was the Trailblazers’ third straight and improved their record to 14-3.
