Hamilton County Sports History is rich - from numerous student-athletes being selected as the best in Indiana, as well as many other significant accomplishments and special moments.

Billy Shepherd, Indiana's Mr. Basketball in 1968, was the county's first Mr. Basketball.

Billy's brother David, was honored as Mr. Basketball in 1970.

In addition to the Hamilton County Hall of Fame, listed below, the Shepherds are in the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame, as is their father and former Carmel basketball coach Bill Shepherd, who coached the state runner-up Greyhounds in 1970.

Also, Billy's oldest son Scott was an Indiana All-Star.

So, when you look back, you could make a strong argument that The Shepherds are the "First Family' of Indiana High School basketball - certainly of Hamilton County basketball.

Noblesville's Tom Coverdale, who went on to star at Indiana University, was honored as the state's No. 1 high school basketball player in 1998.

Hamilton Southeastern's Gary Harris and Zak Irvin became the state's first back-to-back Mr. Basketball recipients at the same high school in 2012 and 2013, respectively. Both were also named Gatorade Indiana Players of the Year.

Just this summer, Harris - who left Michigan State after his sophomore season to enter the NBA Draft (he also was the Big 10 Freshman of the Year) - was selected No. 19 in the first round by the Chicago Bulls, and traded to the Denver Nuggets.

Carmel's Josh McRoberts, a former member of the NBA Indiana Pacers and currently a top player for the Charlotte Hornets, is certainly one of the top student-athletes to come out of Hamilton County, too.

In 2005, McRoberts was selected as the McDonald's All-America Basketball Player of the Year....the McDonald's All-America Game MVP....Parade All-America Basketball Team....National High School Coaches Association Senior Athlete of the Year.

Hamilton Southeastern's Taya Reimer, a gold medalist for the girls 16U & 17U USA basketball teams, was honored as the Naismith National Women's Basketball Player of the Year in 2013. She was also a McDonald's All-American.

Noblesville HS pitcher Wes Whisler was named Indiana's Mr. Baseball in 2001. He was drafted out of high school, but opted to play three seasons for the UCLA Bruins.

Whisler was drafted 50th overall by the Chicago White Sox in the 2004 Major League Baseball Draft, and he made his MLB debut on June 6, 2009 for Chicago.

Morgan Melloh led Hamilton Southeastern to the school's first of two state softball championships and was named Indiana's Miss Softball in 2007.

Noblesville's Katie Harrison was named Indiana's Miss Softball in 2011.

Hamilton Southeastern's Kirsten Timmer was named Indiana's Miss Soccer in 2013.
