INDIANAPOLIS - Brittany Welch had a huge game inside one of the state's grandest venues.

The sophomore shooting guard scored a team-high 21 points to lead the Class 2A Sheridan Blackhawks to a 49-38 victory against Clinton (Ill.) at Bankers Life Fieldhouse on Saturday.

Welch shot 10 of 23 from the field and recorded a team-best eight steals to secure Sheridan's third consecutive victory and seventh this season.

The Blackhawks (7-2) trailed 23-21 at halftime after leading the game early 14-8 through the first eight minutes. Outscoring Clinton 28-15 in the second half, Welch and the Blackhawks were able to post their second three-game winning streak this year.

Sheridan opened the year winning its first three games before sandwiching a win between a two losses to 3A Tri-West and Class A Carroll (Flora) in Hoosier Heartland Conference play.

Through its recent run, Sheridan has beaten Class A Fall Creek Academy, 83-9, and 2A Clinton Central, 77-39.

In their third straight win, Audry Reed added eight points, four steals and two rebounds for the Blackhawks. Katie Hybarger scored seven points and had five rebounds. Faith DeVaney grabbed five rebounds.

Up next, Sheridan hosts Anderson Prep Academy on Tuesday. The game is scheduled to tip at 7:30 p.m.
