Sheridan postponed two athletic events Friday night due to inclement weather.

The Blackhawks boys’ basketball team was scheduled to play a road conference game against Tri-Central at 7:30 p.m. But the high school’s athletic director, Brian Jones, announced the cancellation around noon on Twitter. The game is scheduled to be made up Jan. 27, at 6 p.m.

A couple of hours later, Jones announced that Sheridan’s home wrestling meet with Clinton Prairie and Taylor also had been postponed. The meet is scheduled to be made up Jan. 10, at 6 p.m.

Hamilton Heights also announced the cancellation of the boys’ junior varsity and varsity basketball games on Saturday. Heights had been scheduled to host the Twin Lakes Indians for a 7:30 p.m. tilt.

The Huskies had planned to recognize former players, managers and cheerleaders in a pregame ceremony as part of the program’s first alumni game. The alumni basketball game is still scheduled for 3 p.m., said Heights head coach Chad Ballenger, and anyone who completed at least one full varsity season of boys basketball or cheerleading at the school are encouraged to attend.

The game’s cancellation is disappointing, Ballenger said, because many of the verified attendees weren't going to play in the alumni game but were going to come for the junior varsity and varsity games.

“I am not sure we get those people to attend now,” he said through text. “It will be a great experience for all who can come. We can’t control the weather, and we will have another (alumni game) in the future.”
