ZIONSVILLE - On Saturday morning many of the area's best wrestlers traveled to the Zionsville Sectional to begin their journey to the IHSAA State Championship meet.

As a team Hamilton Southeastern proved the best. The Royals took the team competition with five wrestlers taking first place individually in the meet. Those five wrestlers were Klayton Anderson, Austin Holmes, Jack Chastain, Keegan Stansberry and Spencer Irick.

Anderson, the winner at 106 pounds, was happy with his performance but knows he has quite a way to go in some areas of his abilities.

"I really need to work on my takedowns," Anderson said. "I'm not very good neutral, but I've been working on it with my partner Austin Holmes and it is getting pretty good."

Anderson's teammate, Holmes, was able to claim victory in the 113 pound class. Holmes was looking to avoid falling off the top in the sectional round after feeling the sting of not winning his freshman year.

"It was really tough here my freshman year when I got third," Holmes said. "Winning it back-to-back now it just a great feeling."

For Chastain it was another chance to top Westfield's Evan Eldred at 126 pounds. This time was the two wrestlers' fourth meeting this year. The win for Chastain was his third in those four meetings.

"Eldred is a great competitor," Chastain said. "I am going to have to be on my A game every week to beat him. It'll be the same story next week hopefully."

The story was maybe the most emotional for Royals senior Keegan Stansberry. Last year Stansberry missed the IHSAA tournament with a fractured vertebra that became infected.

This year Stansberry took first place when his opponent, Sam Kern of Zionsville, was unable to compete in the finals due to injury.

"It feels so great to be at the top this time," Stansberry said. "I was so close my sophomore year with second place. It's a lot better to be on top this time."

Also advancing for the Royals with their top four finishes are Corbin Gregg, Jimmy Ford, Adam Dombrowski and Kolby Ferris.

The Royals were not the only local team to find success. The Fishers Tigers and Carmel Greyhounds also had winners at the sectional.

At 145 pounds Mason Gaines of Fishers took home the individual sectional crown and at 195 Sam Hipple of Carmel took the sectional championship.

Other area wrestlers advancing to the regional round next week include: Alexander Strueder (Fishers), Adam Jerde (Carmel), Jack Eiteljorge (Carmel), Zachary Steele (Westfield), Evan Eldred (Westfield), Nick Fox (Carmel), Reid Hutson (Westfield), Caleb Wright (Fishers), Morgan Pruitt (Carmel), Noah Scott (Fishers), Jerrod Smith (Carmel), Justin Miller (Westfield), Sam Bublick (Carmel), Daniel Montes (Fishers), Liam Jagow (Westfield), Freedom Mak-Dawson (Fishers), Austin Hoover (Sheridan), Nick Schaeffer (Westfield), Jacob Eidson (Sheridan), Deshawn Williams (Carmel) and Austin Dollens (Westfield).

All of these wrestlers will move onto the North Montgomery Regional Championship next weekend. That meet will start at 9 a.m.
