The Sheridan Blackhawks girls basketball team jumped out to a double-digit lead in the first quarter and then had to hang on for a 60-53 win over the Lapel Bulldogs on Wednesday night.

Senior guard Audrey Reed led the way for the Blackhawks with 33 points on 12-of-20 from the field. Reed also went 8-of-10 at the foul line.

Sheridan led 24-10 after the first and 36-24 at the break, but Lapel answered with an 18-11 third quarter to cut the deficit to five heading to the fourth. But Reed and junior Heather Barker, who finished with 12 points, weren't going to let the Blackhawks leave with a loss.

Reed led Sheridan on the glass with seven rebounds, and senior Nixon Williams pulled down six. Reed also had six steals and three pass deflections - both team-highs.

Sheridan moves to 10-4 on the season with the win and next plays against the Daleville Broncos on Friday at 11:45 a.m.
