DELPHI - The Class 2A Sheridan girls' basketball team held the lead at halftime but couldn't keep pace in the second half as the host Delphi Oracles won 51-41 on Thursday night.

The Blackhawks lost for the fourth consecutive game after winning 10 straight before their recent losing trend. Sheridan opened the season 4-2 and are now 14-6 on the season.

Against 2A Delphi (13-4) on the road, the Blackhawks built a slim 21-19 lead, outscoring the Oracles by one point each of the first two quarters.

In the second half, however, the Oracles broke free. Finding their offense, they scored 15 in the third and 17 in the final eight minutes to cruise too their sixth consecutive victory.

Delphi improved to a perfect 4-0 against 2A teams this year while Sheridan dropped to 5-2.

Despite the loss, Brittany Welch had a team-high 15 points, shooting 7 of 13 from the field.

During the Blackhawks' current skid, she has put up 24, 17 and 15 points (on Jan. 16 vs. McCutcheon).

Welch entered Thursday night averaging 19.8 points per game. Her season high remains 29 points, which she posted on Nov. 15 against Eastern in a 58-51 win.

No other Sheridan player scored more than six points as the team struggled from the floor, shooting 27 percent at 13-for-47.

Payton Fleenor chipped in six points with a perfect 4-for-4 performance from the free-throw line. Audrey Reed had five points and six rebounds.

Faith DeVaney hauled in team-best seven rebounds and added five points. Katie Hybarger had five rebounds and three points.

Payton Buckner hit the team's only 3-pointer and another bucket to end the night with five points.

The Blackhawks will look to get back into the win column on Tuesday night to open their final three-game home stand before the postseason. Sheridan welcomes Class A Rossville (6-11) at 7:30 p.m. before hosting Class 2A Muncie Burris on Jan. 31 and 3A Frankfort on Feb. 3.
