Temperatures well below freezing forced a couple area schools to cancel athletic events Tuesday.

Officials for Sheridan and Clinton Prairie High School called off a freshman boys basketball game that was scheduled to tip at 6 p.m. in Frankfort, Indiana. The Blackhawks also cancelled a home varsity wrestling meet against Clinton Prairie and Taylor.

“When it starts hitting wind chills around negative 10 degrees or large accumulations of snow, that’s when out administrative team starts talking,” said Sheridan athletic director Brian Jones through email.

Jones is working with Clinton Prairie and Taylor officials to find a makeup date for the wrestling match. Sometimes it works out great, he said, and sometime not so well.

The Hamilton Heights swim and dive team’s meet at Kokomo on Tuesday was also cancelled. Heights athletic director Kurt Ogden said on Twitter that there won’t be a makeup date scheduled for the event.
