SHERIDAN - Winless in four consecutive games, the Sheridan girls' basketball team was due for a breakout.

On Tuesday night, the Class 2A Blackhawks did just that.

Led by Brittany Welch's team-high 25 points, Sheridan charged back into the win column with a lopsided 63-30 victory against Hoosier Heartland Conference rival Rossville.

The Class A Hornets (7-12, 1-3) entered the night riding a three-game winning streak, but the Blackhawks (15-7, 3-2) were primed to end their drought, having not tasted victory since their 57-56 overtime victory against 4A Zionsville on Jan. 9.

Since their slump began on Jan. 10, the Blackhawks had lost to 2A Tipton, HHC foe Class A Clinton Prairie and 2A Delphi on the road in addition to 4A McCutcheon at home.

Sheridan opened the season 3-0 and put together a 10-game winning streak before its late-season lull.

The Blackhawks utilized a strong shooting night and a solid all-around rebounding effort to regain their swagger against Rossville.

Sheridan shot 44 percent from the field (25 of 56) and connected on 8 of 15 attempts from 3-point range to run out to a 16-7 advantage after the first quarter. The Blackhawks' lead swelled to 37-19 by halftime.

Welch was 11 of 23 from the field and 3-for-6 from beyond the arc as the Blackhawks never looked back, outscoring the Hornets 26-11 in the second half.

The 25-point performance was Welch's highest point total since she put up 24 points against Tipton on Jan. 10. The sophomore's season-high is 29 points, which she recorded on Nov. 15 vs. Eastern. Welch has scored 20 or more points in 13 games this year.

Senior Rebekah Hopper had 11 points on 5 of 6 shooting and recorded four steals. It was the first time she has reach double figures in scoring this season.

Overall, the Blackhawks netted 14 steals. Katie Hybarger led the defense with six thefts. She also finished with eight rebounds. Hopper tallied four steals.

Sheridan dominated the defensive glass with 23 rebounds and 35 boards total.

Welch grabbed seven rebounds while Audry Reed hauled in a team-high 10 with seven amassed on the defensive end of the floor.

Reed chipped in eight points, going 4 of 5 from the free-throw line. Payton Buckner had nine points, hitting 3 of 6 treys.

Sheridan hosts 2A Muncie Burris (4-14) on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. They wrap up the regular season on Tuesday at home against 3A Frankfort at 7:30 p.m.
