SHERIDAN - The Sheridan Blackhawks girls' basketball team cruised to an easy 85-19 victory over the visiting Anderson Prep Academy Jets.

The Blackhawks (7-2) scored 36 points in the first quarter and then coasted the rest of the way as they dominated the Jets (0-6).

Sophomore Brittany Welch had 22 points on the night off of 78 percent shooting. She also pulled down six rebounds and dished out three assists in the victory.

Freshman Audrey Reed added 17 to the Blackhawks cause and shot just as well as her teammate Welch. Reed went seven of nine from the field including three big 3-pointers to help Sheridan to the win.

Payton Fleenor was the third double-digit scorer for the Blackhawks. She added 10 points for Sheridan and seven rebounds.

The night was so good offensively for the Blackhawks that all but three of their players scored at least two points on the night.

But what was as equally impressive was the Blackhawks defense. They held the Jets to single-digit points in every single quarter and in the second quarter didn't allow any points at all.

The Blackhawks continue their home stand this Saturday against Tri-Central at 12:30 p.m. The Blackhawks will be looking for some revenge on the Trojans (5-1) who beat them last season in overtime.
