TIPTON -Nothing last forever, and the Class 2A Tipton Blue Devils made certain of that as they handed the 2A Sheridan girls' basketball team its first loss in more than a month.

Falling by the slimmest of margins on Saturday, 54-53, the Blackhawks (14-3, 2-1) endured defeat for the first time since losing to Class A Carroll (Flora) 36-35 on Dec. 5.

All three of Sheridan's losses this year have been on the road.

Trouble reared its unfortunate head in the first half for Sheridan, which faced an early 13-8 deficit after the first eight minutes. The Blackhawks battled back in the second quarter, cutting into Tipton's lead 24-23.

However, the one-point margin held up through the second half as Tipton (7-7) matched the visiting Blackhawks bucket for bucket to win.

Brittany Welch, once again, led Sheridan in scoring with 24 points. The sophomore has recorded 20-plus points in 13 games this year.

She shot 10-of-18 from the floor and was 4 for 7 from 3-point range.

Audrey Reed chipped in 10 points, but no other Blackhawk reached double figures.

Payton Buckner was the closest at eight points.

Katie Hybarger contributed 10 rebounds. Welch followed with four boards.

Sheridan resumes its road trip on Thursday Night at Hoosier Heartland Conference bottom feeder Clinton Prairie (7-6, 1-2) at 7:30 p.m.
