DOVER - On Thursday evening, the Sheridan Blackhawks boys' basketball team took on the host Western Boone Stars.

Despite grabbing an early lead after the first quarter, the Class 2A Blackhawks were unable to keep pace with the 3AStars and lost 49-39.

The leading scorer for the Blackhawks was Elliott Barker, who finished with 14 points off of 6 of 10 shooting. He also made both of his free throw attempts and added five rebounds.

Teammate Jacob Chesney added 12 points off of 5 of 12 shooting and also made both of his free throws while adding five rebounds and two assists.

Brock Kitchel scored nine points off of 4 of 13 shooting as the Blackhawks went 32 percent from the field.

Sheridan was outrebounded by the Stars 26-23, but second-chance shots weren't the only factor. Western Boone shot an impressive 51 percent from the field. Each player shot 40 percent or better for the Stars.

The Blackhawks were only 1 of 14 from 3-point range, which contributed to an eight-point second quarter and a nine-point final frame.

Western Boone only led 22-20 at halftime and padded the margin to five points before scoring 14 in the fourth to win by double figures.

The Blackhawks are now 5-15 on the year.
