LAFAYETTE - The Sheridan Blackhawks girls' basketball team fell to the Class 4A McCutcheon Mavericks Friday night 52-39.

The Blackhawks (14-5) couldn't find their usual offensive firepower on Friday and were unable to keep up with the Mavericks (12-4).

Brittany Welch led the Blackhawks with 15 points. She was the only Sheridan player to score in double digits on the night. She went 6-of-13 from the field and also pulled down seven rebounds for the Blackhawks.

Audrey Reed and Payton Buckner each scored six points for the Blackhawks. Reed also had three boards and two steals. Katie Hybarger added four points to the Blackhawks' effort, but she did most of her work on the boards pulling down 10 rebounds.

Payton Fleenor chipped in four points and Rebekah Hopper and Faith DeVaney each scored two points apiece to round out the scoring total for the Blackhawks.

The Blackhawks will have a few days off before they take on the Delphi Oracles on Jan. 22. The game will take place at Delphi High School and tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The Blackhawks will be trying to avoid their first 3-game losing streak since the 2012-2013 season.
