Royals send off seniors with dominating win

FISHERS – The Hamilton Southeastern Royals hosted the Pike Red Devils as the team honored their seniors on Tuesday night. In honor of their final home game of their career’s the Lady Royals started all five seniors and the team was able to pick up what turned into a dominating 61-36 win.

Pike was able to keep the game close in the first half as a 16-13 second quarter allowed them to tie up the game at 25-25 heading into halftime. However the Royals were able to quickly crush any hope of an upset as they outscored the Red Devils 36-11 in the second half and 23-2 in the third quarter.

In her final home game of her career Senior Sydney Parrish would record a double-double as she led the way for the Royals with 24 points and ten rebounds. Fellow Senior Lauren Morris ended with ten points.

The win caps off what was a stellar regular season for the Lady Royals as the end the season with a 20-2 record (6-1 HCC). The team will now get ready for the opening round of sectionals next Tuesday (Feb. 4) as they will take on the Lady Greyhounds in the opening round.

Tigers handle No. 5 Lawrence North

INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 5 Fishers Lady Tigers traveled to take on the also No. 5 Lawrence North Wildcats on Tuesday night. Both teams were tied in the latest IBCA coaches’ poll so this game would break the tie between the two excellent teams.

It didn’t take long for the Lady Tigers to assert the dominance over the Wildcats as dominated the first quarter of play by holding Lawrence North to just two first quarter points as they held a 17-2 lead. They would be able to extend their lead at halftime by five as they lead 34-14.

The second half was more balanced between the two teams but the Wildcats had dug themselves too deep of a hole to climb out of as the Lady Tigers cruised to the finish line.

Senior Lydia Stullken led a balanced scoring attack for Fishers with 14, while eight total players scored for the Tigers. Hailey Smith led the team with eight rebounds and Katie Burton grabbed six rebounds and added three assists. Audra Emmerson had five rebounds and a she and Olivia Smith both had four assists.

The win for the Lady Tigers improves their record to 20-1 (6-0 HCC) on the season. The Tigers will play their final game of the regular season on Friday night as they travel to take on Franklin Central.

Rocks unable to complete comeback vs Greensburg

WESTFIELD – The Westfield Lady Rocks played their final game of the regular season on Tuesday against Greensburg as they honored their seniors for senior night. Unfortunately for the Lady Rocks Greensburg would spoil the senior night festivities by defeating Westfield 53-44.

On offense the Lady Rocks could muster almost nothing in the first half as they were outscored 20-6 in the first and 9-4 in second to fall behind 29-10 at halftime.

The break seemed to work well for the Lady Rocks who came out in the third quarter and started to chip away at the Greensburg lead. As the period ended the Rocks outscored more than tripled their score by dropping 21 points to only trail 41-31 going into the fourth. However the Lady Rocks weren’t able to keep the momentum going as both teams traded baskets throughout the final quarter which allowed Greensburg to take home the win.

Ava Henson led the Lady Rocks with 11 points in the loss. Alyssa Crockett added in ten points. Aliyah Evans led all scorers in the game for Greensburg as she ended with 25 points and 11 rebounds.

The loss drops the Lady Rocks record to 13-10 (3-4 HCC) as they team concludes their regular season. The Rocks will face Zionsville in the opening round of sectional play on Feb. 4.

37-9 stretch dooms Golden Eagles in loss

INDIANAPOLIS – The Lady Golden Eagles traveled Tuesday night to take on Decatur Central and fell by a final score of 58-30.

After one quarter of play the Lady Golden Eagles only trailed by two. However the next two quarters would be dominated by Decatur Central who would outscore Guerin Catholic 37-9 over the second and third quarters to take a commanding 49-19 lead into the fourth.

The loss for the Lady Golden Eagles drops their record to 8-13 on the season. The team will play its final game of the season on Friday night as they honor their seniors in a girl/boy double-header against Central Catholic.

Lady Greyhounds run away from Cathedral

CARMEL – Tuesday night the Lady Greyhounds hosted Cathedral and were able to use a dominate 42-18 stretch over the second and third quarters to run away with an 80-61 win.

The Greyhounds and Cathedral offense lit up the scoreboard in the first quarter scoring a combined 35 points as the Greyhounds held a 19-16 lead. An 18-9 second quarter was followed by a 24-9 third and that was all that the Lady Greyhounds needed to cruise to another victory. Even a 27-19 fourth by Cathedral didn’t make much of a dent in the Greyhound lead.

Sophomore Kate Clarke led the Greyhounds with 24 points in the win. Junior Bridgett Dunn added in 14 points and Senior Fatima Vaiente recorded ten points.

The win for the Greyhounds improves their record to 14-7 (4-2 MIC) on the season. The team will play its last regular season game on Friday night at home against Ben Davis for Senior Night. 

Lady Trailblazer’s one-game away from perfect regular season

CARMEL – The University Lady Trailblazers hosted Indianapolis Ritter on Tuesday night and just like their other 20 games, came away with a win as they took home a 54-35 victory.

The win for the Lady Trailblazers improves their record to 21-0 on the season. The team will play its regular season finale Thursday night as they travel to Tri-West looking as they look to cap off a perfect regular season.

Guerin boys dominate Liberty Christian

The Guerin Catholic boys’ basketball team hosted Liberty Christian on Tuesday night and came away with a dominating 81-44 win.

Quarters of 17-6 (first), 27-11 (second), and 20-11 (third) allowed the Golden Eagles to build a massive 64-28 lead after three quarters.

The win improves the team’s record to 12-4 on the season. Guerin will return to action on Friday night in the second game of a boy/girl double-header against Central Catholic.
