What a Saturday it was for the Miller soccer program. Both teams were able to take home the Regional title as the boys team defeated Carroll 2-1 while the girls shutout McCutcheon 5-0.

The day started for both teams by playing in their respective regional semi-final matches as the girls defeated Carroll 1-0.
The Boys were victorious in their matchup against Harrison also by a 1-0 final score.

A few miscues from the Millers in the first half saw the Raiders hit the post and have a shot cleared off the line. After these close calls, the Millers grew into the game and started possessing the ball and having better scoring opportunities. However, the half time score was 0-0.

In the second half, the Millers had more chances, plenty of corner kicks as well as free kicks but just couldn’t find the back of the net. With just under 7 minutes to play in the game junior Drew Barnes slotted in a nice ball behind the Raiders’ defense to sophomore Palmer Ault who beat the Harrison keeper to make the score 1-0. Harrison pressed hard for the remainder of the game but were unable to find the equalizer.

In the championship for the boys team, Harrison Christman got them on the board just eight minutes into the game.

Carroll’s lone goal came way of a penalty kick later in the first half as the two teams went into the half all tied at one.

Christman ended up connecting on what was the game-winning goal for the Millers with 20 minutes left in the second half.

After that goal, the Miller defense held their ground and Carroll was unable to find the back of the net as the Millers captured the title.

Over on the Lady Millers side, Elana Chatterton go the scoring started in the fourth minute of action as she scored off of an Isabella Griffey assist. The Lady Millers then added two more goals in the first half. The first coming way of Carly Hudnall in the 16th minute. The second by way Ava Bramblet as the team took a 3-0 lead into halftime.

Two more second half goals by Meskerem James (47th minute) and Paige Landers (71st minute) all but secured the Regional title for the Lady Millers.

The ladies now with their two wins on Saturday improve to 15-0-3 (6-0-1 HCC) and will face off against Penn (15-5-2) in the semi-state championship on Saturday at 3 p.m at Kokomo High School

The boys with both of their wins improve to 16-2-2 (5-2 HCC) and take on Lake Central (11-5-3) in the semi-state title game on Saturday starting at 5 p.m also at Kokomo High School.
