The Fishers Tigers (17-7) took on Anderson Indians (7-17) in the first round of sectional play on Tuesday, and the Tigers defeated Anderson by a score of 65-51, which means they will advance to Friday night’s quarterfinal game where they will face the reigning sectional champions — the Carmel Greyhounds — in Carmel.

Fishers was led by junior guard Alex Szilagy, who managed 20 points and 3 steals. Junior Justin Long and freshman Jeffrey Simmons each added 12 points.

The Tigers looked and played like a team on a mission from the start—gaining an early 20-11 lead midway through the first quarter.
By the time the halftime buzzer sounded, the Tigers were ahead 27-17.

In the third quarter, Fishers had a clear emphasis on pushing their lead out to as far as they could in the first 4 minutes of the period to essentially put the game on ice the rest of the way.

But Anderson connected on a few quick three-point attempts and cut the lead to 4 points midway through the third quarter.

Unfortunately for the Indians, the run would be short-lived though as Fishers once again clamped down on defense shifting their focus back to mounting as many stops as possible knowing the offense would soon follow.

Not long after, junior guard Alex Szilagy got loose for a momentum shifting three-pointer, followed by an easy two on the ensuing possession after the Tigers forced yet another contested Anderson shot, which was pulled down by Jeffrey Simmons. The Fishers run propelled them to a 40-28 advantage by the end of the third.

In the fourth, the Indians came out shooting a barrage of three-pointers in an attempt to get back in the game — connecting on two off them less than a minute into the fourth — but the effort would prove unsuccessful as the Tigers went on to a 65-51 victory.

The win moves the Tigers to 17-7 on the season as they begin to prepare for Friday night’s quarterfinal matchup with the Hamilton County rival Carmel Greyhounds (20-1). Tip-off is scheduled for approximately 8 p.m., depending on when game one wraps up. Game one is set to tipoff at 6 p.m. and will feature the Noblesville Millers (13-10) against the Hamilton Southeastern Royals (15-8).

The Greyhounds are seeking their eighth consecutive sectional title and also their tenth title in 11 years. The Tigers, Millers and Royals all have other plans.
