The Carmel Greyhounds (24-1) took on Fort Wayne Northrup (17-9) on Saturday morning in Logansport in the first round of regional play and their 58-42 victory sent them to the regional championship game Saturday evening against the Zionsville Eagles (21-6).

The Greyhounds came out on top 53-39 in the championship game against the Eagles and will now move on to play Penn High School in the semi-state game on Saturday, March 16.

Against Northrup, Carmel was led by senior Karsten Windlan who managed 19 points, 3 rebounds and 3 steals. Andrew Owens added 13 points, 4 steals and 1 assist. John Michael Mulloy had 11 points, 2 blocks and an assist.

Fort Wayne Northrup was led by Qualen Pettus who scored 14 points. Sydney Curry added 12 points of his own and Issac Anderson and Nick Halnes each had 6.

Carmel trailed for the entire first half during their first game on Saturday before coming out of the locker room and scoring 24 points in the third and taking a 40-33 into the fourth quarter. In the fourth, the Greyhounds outscored Northrup 18 to 9 on the way to their 16 point victory.

In their second game on Saturday, the Greyhounds took down the Eagles 53-39.

Carmel’s was led once again by Karsten Windlan, who had 18 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Andrew Owens added 14 points. Peter Suder had 8 points against Zionsville and John Michael Mulloy had 7. Luke Heady rounded out the Greyhounds’ scoring with 6.

Unlike the first game on Saturday, Carmel led for the entire game, including: a three-point lead in the third, a seven-point lead at the half, and a nine point lead going into the third. By the time the final buzzer sounded the Greyhounds were on top by 14 points: 53-39.

With the two wins, the Greyhounds will move on to play Penn High School (26-4) at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 16, at Lafayette Jefferson High School.

On the other side of the bracket in Class 4A, Center Grove (22-8) will take on Ben Davis (19-7) in the Washington semi-state game at 6 p.m. on Saturday.

The winners of the Carmel/Penn and Center Grove/Ben Davis semi-state games will face off in the IHSAA State Finals at 8:15 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in downtown Indianapolis.
