You might say they are playing their song, a winning song as Indiana High School boys and girls basketball moves into 2020 in a big way.

Just ask the Fishers girls and boys. Just ask the Westfield boys. Just ask the University girls.

Yep, all are still unbeaten . . .  and hoping to continue their impressive runs in the New Year.

Hey, pretty sweet music to their fans, for sure!

Coach Justin Blanding’s University High School girls own the most wins in Hamilton County with their 16-0 record.

Coach Lauren Votaw’s Fishers girls are 14-0.

Coach Matt Moore’s 4A Fishers boys are 11-0.

Coach Shane Sumpter’s 4A Westfield boys follow at 6-0.

Yep, times are good!

University enters the New Year at No. 2 in the 2A coaches’ association poll, the highest-ranked program in Hamilton County.

Fishers’ 4A girls and boys own identical 4A rankings.

Westfield holds down the No. 10 ranking in 4A.

While the rest of the teams were idle this past Monday and preparing for the New Year, the Lady Trailblazers were busy winning the Bulldog Holiday Classic at Monrovia, where they notched wins over Bishop Chatard (63-54) and South Putnam (62-46).

This is starting to take on a  familiar look for University. The Lady Trailblazers are picking up pretty much where it left off last season, when they won their first 11 games in an eventual 24-3 season that produced an IHSAA regional championship.

Could University ring in 2020 with an even better finish?

Yes, quite possibly! Even  though it’s a pretty young team.

Coming up for the unbeatens:

The Fishers boys visit Columbus East (2-4) today at 7:30 p.m.

The Fishers Lady Tigers are at Fort Wayne South (9-3) on Jan. 4.

Westfield’s boys entertain Victory College Prep (4-4) on Jan. 4

The Lady Trailblazers lay out the welcome mat to New Castle (2-11) on Jan. 7.

RECORD BREAKERS

In case you missed this, two basketball scoring records were recently set in Hamilton County basketball.

Hamilton Southeastern’s Sydney Parrish scored a single-season, career-high 35 points and totaled 60 points in the North Central Classic last week, and the Oregon-bound phenom set a new school record for HSE basketball (boys/girls). She ran her career total to 1,679 points, breaking the old record of 1,657 set by Zach Gunn (2017).

University senior Lindsey Syrek became the school’s career scoring leader with 1,652 points in an 83-24 victory over Randolph Southern in late December game at Banker’s Life Fieldhouse.

Syrek, who scored 28 points, added 39 more points in Monday’s Bulldog Classic at Monrovia, upping her career total to 1,691. She’s now among the upper echelon of all-time scorers in Hamilton County.

COUNTY  NOTE

The all-time girls Hamilton County scoring leader with 1,869 points is the late Courtney Cox Cole, a 1989 graduate of Noblesville High School.

Carmel’s Billy Shepherd (1968) is the all-time Hamilton County boys scoring leader with 2,465 points. His brother David (1970) is second with 2,226 points.
